POV/RESEARCH: Experiential Travel To See An Uptick In 2011?

The old Don McLean song, "American Pie" speaks to "the day the music died", and as we approach the ten year anniversary of the unconscionable acts of Sept. 11, 2001, I think back to how many in the leisure and travel categories saw that as a day that travel died...at least in the short term. Certainly those horrific events gave pause to many US travelers, and I recall instituting some sentiment research at that time to measure and track the magnitude of these attitudes over time. We slowly saw things normalize until the most recent shocks to the system, commensurate with the economic downturn of the past three years created further damage to the travel and secondary real estate markets. But these phenomenon were not tied to just singular events. Rather a number of factors were contributors to the challenging climate. I'm happy to report that we may, in early 2011 be starting to see a break in the clouds. READ MORE»
