Timeshare Owners Ski Three Times More Often Than Average Travelers

ARDA’s Vacation Ownership Study, conducted by SLRG, provides insights on the skiing market.

Booking the perfect ski vacation can be a frustrating, often exasperating experience for skiers who worry about every little detail. After all, spending upwards of $10,000 on a ski vacation is not a frivolous matter. Everything needs to be precise. Where should you go? What type of lift tickets should you buy? What is the apres ski scene like? And perhaps most important, what kind of accommodations are available?

The type of accommodations that skiers ultimately select can either make or break a ski vacation. There’s nothing quite like returning to nearby, spacious lodging after a long day on the slopes. The last thing that skiers want is a lodging package with cramped quarters that leaves little room for relaxation.

A new nationwide study from ARDA, the trade association for the vacation ownership and timeshare industries, has found that the traveler segment that will hit the slopes the most this season are timeshare owners, who ski three times as much as other U.S. travelers.

The 2025 November Vacation Ownership Sentiment Report – which surveyed 500 timeshare owners and 500 general travelers – revealed several factors contributing to owners’ enthusiasm toward ski vacations. First, nearly nine in ten owners found that owning a timeshare simply makes it easy to book these types of vacations. Second, 87% of owners stated that timeshares provide a better value for their ski vacations than if they had to book with a non-timeshare resort.

“One of the primary benefits of timeshare ownership is locking in your lifetime of vacations at today’s prices,” explains ARDA President & CEO Jason Gamel. “That benefit is particularly significant when it comes to seasonal travel, like ski season, which tends to get more expensive year after year. However, the value of ski vacations for owners really lies in both price and experience. Not only do owners avoid rising hotel rates, but they also get to stay in gorgeous, spacious timeshare resorts located near some of the world’s most popular slopes, from Park City to Lake Tahoe, to Breckenridge and beyond.”Scenic view of Breckenridge ski resort in Colorado.

Timeshare owners at Breckenridge Ski Resort are treated to a large, diverse Colorado ski resort known for its high-alpine bowls, extensive terrain for all levels (especially advanced), world-class terrain parks and a charming, historic mining town with rustic vibe. It offers some of North America’s highest lift-accessed terrain, providing incredible views and great snow quality. Park City Mountain Resort is North America’s largest ski resort, a massive and varied destination known for its huge acreage (7,300 acres), excellent lift system connecting two base areas (Park City & Canyons), and direct access to historic downtown Main Street, offering terrain for all levels, from gentle groomers to steep bowls. Lake Tahoe ski resorts offer a stunning mix of world-class skiing with massive, varied terrain (groomers, steeps, parks) for all levels, iconic lake views, and vibrant mountain towns, ranging from the party scene in South Lake to casinos of North Lake. Expect reliable snow, modern lifts and a bustling atmosphere.

Here are additional ski season insights from the study:

  • 88% of surveyed owners say that they tend to stay at their timeshare or within their timeshare brand for ski vacations.
  • 98% of Timeshare Owners who ski plan to take at least one 2026 overnight trip where they will hit the slopes.
  • More than half of surveyed owners prefer to stay at the same accommodation and ski the same mountain.

In addition to these findings, the study also measured timeshare owners’ enthusiasm for travel in general against that of non-owners. Significant takeaways from this portion of the report are below:

  • 60% of timeshare owners have made a reservation for their next vacation; more than 70% higher than the incidence of overall travelers.
  • Fifty-four percent of timeshare owners are planning to spend significantly more time on vacation over the next six months, a more than 70% higher incidence than travelers in general who plan to do the same.
  • 61% of timeshare owners plan to take their next timeshare vacation within four months.
